SIR as your mandate did requestA
I send you here a faithfu' listB
O' gudes an' gear an' a' my graithC
To which I'm clear to gi'e my aithC
-
-
Imprimis then for carriage cattleD
I hae four brutes o' gallant mettleD
As ever drew afore a pettleD
My hand afore 's a guid auld has beenE
An' wight an' wilfu' a' his days beenE
My hand ahin 's a weel gaun fillieD
That aft has borne me hame frae KillieD
An' your auld borough mony a timeF
In days when riding was nae crimeF
But ance when in my wooing prideG
I like a blockhead boost to rideG
The wilfu' creature sae I pat toH
L d pardon a' my sins an' that tooH
I play'd my fillie sic a shavieI
She's a' bedevil'd wi' the spavieI
My furr ahin 's a wordy beastJ
As e'er in tug or tow was tracedK
The fourth's a Highland Donald hastleD
A d n'd red wud Kilburnie blastieK
Foreby a cowt o' cowts the waleD
As ever ran afore a tailD
Gin he be spar'd to be a beastK
He'll draw me fifteen pund at leastK
Wheel carriages I ha'e but fewI
Three carts an' twa are feckly newI
An auld wheelbarrow mair for tokenL
Ae leg an' baith the trams are brokenL
I made a poker o' the spin'leD
An' my auld mither brunt the trin'leD
-
-
For men I've three mischievous boysM
Run deils for ranting an' for noiseM
A gaudsman ane a thrasher t' otherN
Wee Davock hauds the nowt in fotherN
I rule them as I ought discreetlyD
An' aften labour them completelyD
An' aye on Sundays duly nightlyD
I on the Questions targe them tightlyD
Till faith wee Davock's grown sae glegO
Tho' scarcely langer than your legO
He'll screed you aff Effectual CallingO
As fast as ony in the dwallingO
-
-
I've nane in female servant stationL
L d keep me aye frae a' temptationL
I hae nae wife and thay my bliss isP
An' ye have laid nae tax on missesQ
An' then if kirk folks dinna clutch meD
I ken the deevils darena touch meD
Wi' weans I'm mair than weel contentedK
Heav'n sent me ane mae than I wantedK
My sonsie smirking dear bought BessR
She stares the daddy in her faceS
Enough of ought ye like but graceS
But her my bonie sweet wee ladyD
I've paid enough for her alreadyD
An' gin ye tax her or her mitherN
By the L d ye'se get them a' thegitherN
-
-
And now remember Mr AikenE
Nae kind of licence out I'm takinE
Frae this time forth I do declareN
I'se ne'er ride horse nor hizzie mairN
Thro' dirt and dub for life I'll paidleD
Ere I sae dear pay for a saddleD
My travel a' on foot I'll shank itK
I've sturdy bearers Gude the thankitK
The kirk and you may tak you thatK
It puts but little in your patK
Sae dinna put me in your beukO
Nor for my ten white shillings leukO
-
-
This list wi' my ain hand I wrote itK
The day and date as under notedK
Then know all ye whom it concernsT
