The Fall Of The Leaf Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHIJ

THE LAZY mist hangs from the brow of the hillA
Concealing the course of the dark winding rillA
How languid the scenes late so sprightly appearB
As Autumn to Winter resigns the pale yearB
-
-
The forests are leafless the meadows are brownC
And all the gay foppery of summer is flownD
Apart let me wander apart let me museE
How quick Time is flying how keen Fate pursuesE
-
-
How long I have liv'd but how much liv'd in vainF
How little of life's scanty span may remainF
What aspects old Time in his progress has wornG
What ties cruel Fate in my bosom has tornG
-
-
How foolish or worse till our summit is gain'dH
And downward how weaken'd how darken'd how pain'dH
Life is not worth having with all it can giveI
For something beyond it poor man sure must liveJ
