O WHA will to Saint Stephen's HouseA
To do our errands there manB
O wha will to Saint Stephen's HouseA
O' th' merry lads of Ayr manB
Or will we send a man o' lawC
Or will we send a sodgerD
Or him wha led o'er Scotland a'E
The meikle Ursa MajorD
-
-
Come will ye court a noble lordF
Or buy a score o'lairds manB
For worth and honour pawn their wordG
Their vote shall be Glencaird's manB
Ane gies them coin ane gies them wineH
Anither gies them clatterD
Annbank wha guessed the ladies' tasteI
He gies a F te Champ treD
-
-
When Love and Beauty heard the newsJ
The gay green woods amang manB
Where gathering flowers and busking bowersK
They heard the blackbird's sang manB
A vow they sealed it with a kissL
Sir Politics to fetterD
As their's alone the patent blissL
To hold a F te Champ treD
-
-
Then mounted Mirth on gleesome wingM
O'er hill and dale she flew manB
Ilk wimpling burn ilk crystal springM
Ilk glen and shaw she knew manB
She summon'd every social spriteN
That sports by wood or waterD
On th' bonie banks of Ayr to meetO
And keep this F te Champ treD
-
-
Cauld Boreas wi' his boisterous crewD
Were bound to stakes like kye manB
And Cynthia's car o' silver fu'P
Clamb up the starry sky manB
Reflected beams dwell in the streamsQ
Or down the current shatterD
The western breeze steals thro'the treesR
To view this F te Champ treD
-
-
How many a robe sae gaily floatsS
What sparkling jewels glance manB
To Harmony's enchanting notesS
As moves the mazy dance manB
The echoing wood the winding floodT
Like Paradise did glitterD
When angels met at Adam's yettU
To hold their F te Champ treD
-
-
When Politics came there to mixV
And make his ether stane manB
He circled round the magic groundW
But entrance found he nane manB
He blush'd for shame he quat his nameX
Forswore it every letterD
Wi' humble prayer to join and shareD
This festive F te Champ treD
