Remorse: A Fragment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLGMNOPMQM RS

OF all the numerous ills that hurt our peaceA
That press the soul or wring the mind with anguishB
Beyond comparison the worst are thoseC
By our own folly or our guilt brought onD
In ev'ry other circumstance the mindE
Has this to say It was no deed of mineF
But when to all the evil of misfortuneG
This sting is added Blame thy foolish selfH
Or worser far the pangs of keen remorseI
The torturing gnawing consciousness of guiltJ
Of guilt perhaps when we've involv d othersK
The young the innocent who fondly lov'd usL
Nay more that very love their cause of ruinG
O burning hell in all thy store of tormentsM
There's not a keener lashN
Lives there a man so firm who while his heartO
Feels all the bitter horrors of his crimeP
Can reason down its agonizing throbsM
And after proper purpose of amendmentQ
Can firmly force his jarring thoughts to peaceM
O happy happy enviable manR
O glorious magnanimity of soulS
