Ode Sacred To The Memory Of Mrs. Oswald, Of Auchencruive. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC D EEEEEDDFFF D EEEEFFE F GHGIIJHJ

Dweller in yon dungeon darkA
Hangman of creation markA
Who in widow weeds appearsB
Laden with unhonoured yearsB
Noosing with care a bursting purseC
Baited with many a deadly curseC
-
StropheD
-
View the wither'd beldam's faceE
Can thy keen inspection traceE
Aught of Humanity's sweet melting graceE
Note that eye 'tis rheum o'erflowsE
Pity's flood there never roseE
See these hands ne'er stretch'd to saveD
Hands that took but never gaveD
Keeper of Mammon's iron chestF
Lo there she goes unpitied and unblestF
She goes but not to realms of everlasting restF
-
AntistropheD
-
Plunderer of armies lift thine eyesE
Awhile forbear ye tort'ring fiendsE
Seest thou whose step unwilling hither bendsE
No fallen angel hurl'd from upper skiesE
'Tis thy trusty quondam mateF
Doom'd to share thy fiery fateF
She tardy hell ward pliesE
-
EpodeF
-
And are they of no more availG
Ten thousand glitt'ring pounds a yearH
In other worlds can Mammon failG
Omnipotent as he is hereI
O bitter mock'ry of the pompous bierI
While down the wretched vital part is driv'nJ
The cave lodg'd beggar with a conscience clearH
Expires in rags unknown and goes to Heav'nJ
