Farewell To The Banks Of Ayr Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDE FFGGHHDE IIJJKKDE LLLLLLDE

THE GLOOMY night is gath'ring fastA
Loud roars the wild inconstant blastA
Yon murky cloud is foul with rainB
I see it driving o'er the plainB
The hunter now has left the moorC
The scatt'red coveys meet secureC
While here I wander prest with careD
Along the lonely banks of AyrE
-
-
The Autumn mourns her rip'ning cornF
By early Winter's ravage tornF
Across her placid azure skyG
She sees the scowling tempest flyG
Chill runs my blood to hear it raveH
I think upon the stormy waveH
Where many a danger I must dareD
Far from the bonie banks of AyrE
-
-
'Tis not the surging billow's roarI
'Tis not that fatal deadly shoreI
Tho' death in ev'ry shape appearJ
The wretched have no more to fearJ
But round my heart the ties are boundK
That heart transpierc'd with many a woundK
These bleed afresh those ties I tearD
To leave the bonie banks of AyrE
-
-
Farewell old Coila's hills and dalesL
Her healthy moors and winding valesL
The scenes where wretched Fancy rovesL
Pursuing past unhappy lovesL
Farewell my friends farewell my foesL
My peace with these my love with thoseL
The bursting tears my heart declareD
Farewell the bonie banks of AyrE
