For Lords or Kings I dinna mournA
E'en let them die for that they're bornA
But oh prodigious to reflec'B
A Towmont Sirs is gane to wreckB
O Eighty eight in thy sma' spaceC
What dire events ha'e taken placeC
Of what enjoyments thou hast reft usD
In what a pickle thou hast left usD
-
The Spanish empire's tint a headE
An' my auld toothless Bawtie's deadE
The tulzie's sair 'tween Pitt and FoxF
And our guid wife's wee birdie cocksF
The tane is game a bluidie devilG
But to the hen birds unco civilG
The tither's something dour o' treadin'A
But better stuff ne'er claw'd a middenA
Ye ministers come mount the pu'pitH
An' cry till ye be hearse an' roupetH
For Eighty eight he wish'd you weelG
An' gied you a' baith gear an' mealG
E'en mony a plack and mony a peckB
Ye ken yoursels for little feckB
-
Ye bonnie lasses dight your e'enA
For some o' you ha'e tint a frien'A
In Eighty eight ye ken was ta'enA
What ye'll ne'er ha'e to gie againA
-
Observe the very nowt an' sheepI
How dowf and dowie now they creepI
Nay even the yirth itsel' does cryJ
For Embro' wells are grutten dryJ
O Eighty nine thou's but a bairnA
An' no owre auld I hope to learnA
Thou beardless boy I pray tak' careK
Thou now has got thy daddy's chairK
Nae hand cuff'd mizl'd hap shackl'd RegentH
But like himsel' a full free agentH
Be sure ye follow out the planA
Nae waur than he did honest manA
As muckle better as ye canA
