Sweet fa's the eve on Craigie burnB
And blithe awakes the morrowC
But a' the pride o' spring's returnB
Can yield me nocht but sorrowC

-
I see the flowers and spreading treesD
I hear the wild birds singingE
But what a weary wight can pleaseD
And care his bosom wringingE
-
IIIA
-
Fain fain would I my griefs impartF
Yet dare na for your angerG
But secret love will break my heartF
If I conceal it langerG
-

-
If thou refuse to pity meI
If thou shall love anitherG
When yon green leaves fade frae the treeG
Around my grave they'll witherG
