Tune The Country LassA
-
-
I-
-
In simmer when the hay was mawnB
And corn wav'd green in ilka fieldC
While claver blooms white o'er the leaD
And roses blaw in ilka bieldC
Blithe Bessie in the milking shielE
Says I'll be wed come o't what willF
Out spak a dame in wrinkled eildC
O' guid advisement comes nae illF
-
II-
-
It's ye hae wooers mony aneB
And lassie ye're but young ye kenB
Then wait a wee and cannie waleG
A routhie butt a routhie benB
There's Johnie o' the Buskie glenB
Fu' is his burn fu' is his byreH
Tak this frae me my bonnie henB
It's plenty beets the luver's fireH
-
III-
-
For Johnie o' the Buskie glenB
I dinna care a single flieG
He lo'es sae weel his craps and kyeI
He has nae luve to spare for meD
But blithe's the blink o' Robie's e'eD
And weel I wat he lo'es me dearH
Ae blink o' him I wad nae gieJ
For Buskie glen and a' his gearH
-
IVK
-
O thoughtless lassie life's a faughtC
The canniest gate the strife is sairH
But ay fu' han't is fechtin bestC
An hungry care's an unco careH
But some will spend and some will spareH
An' wilfu' folk maun hae their willG
Syne as ye brew my maiden fairH
Keep mind that ye maun drink the yillG
-
VK
-
O gear will buy me rigs o' landC
And gear will buy me sheep and kyeI
But the tender heart o' leesome luveK
The gowd and siller canna buy-
We may be poor Robie and I-
Light is the burden luve lays onB
Content and luve brings peace and joyJ
What mair hae queens upon a throneB
