-
By Allan stream I chanced to roveB
While Phoebus sank beyond BenlediC
The winds were whispering through the groveB
The yellow corn was waving readyC
I listened to a lover's sangD
And thought on youthfu' pleasures monyC
And aye the wild wood echoes rangD
O dearly do I lo'e thee AnnieC

-
O happy be the woodbine bowerE
Nae nightly bogle make it eerieC
Nor ever sorrow stain the hourE
The place and time I met my dearieE
Her head upon my throbbing breastC
She sinking said I'm thine for everE
While mony a kiss the seal imprestC
The sacred vow we ne'er should severE

-
The haunt o' Spring's the primrose braeE
The Simmer joys the flocks to followF
How cheery thro' her shortening dayE
Is Autumn in her weeds o' yellowF
But can they melt the glowing heartC
Or chain the soul in speechless pleasureE
Or thro' each nerve the rapture dartC
Like meeting her our bosom's treasureE
