As I was a wand'ring ae midsummer e'enin'B
The pipers and youngsters were making their gameC
Amang them I spied my faithless fause loverD
Which bled a' the wound o' my dolour againB
Weel since he has left me may pleasure gae wi' himE
I may be distress'd but I winna complainB
I flatter my fancy I may get anitherD
My heart it shall never be broken for aneB

I could na get sleeping till dawin for greetin'B
The tears trickled down like the hail and the rainB
Had I na got greetin' my heart wad a brokenB
For oh luve forsaken's a tormenting painB

III-
-
Although he has left me for greed o' the sillerD
I dinna envy him the gains he can winB
I rather wad bear a' the lade o' my sorrowD
Than ever hae acted sae faithless to himE
Weel since he has left me may pleasure gae wi' himE
I may be distress'd but I winna complainB
I flatter my fancy I may get anitherD
My heart it shall never be broken for aneB
