A stern and stalwart ghaist arise | F |
Attir'd as minstrels wont to be | F |

Had I a statue been o' stane | G |
His darin' look had daunted me | F |
And on his bonnet grav'd was plain | G |
The sacred posy 'Libertie ' | - |

And frae his harp sic strains did flow | I |
Might rous'd the slumb'ring dead to hear | J |
But oh it was a tale of woe | I |
As ever met a Briton's ear | J |
