Home Thoughts, From Abroad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDD EEFGFGGGHHIG

Oh to be in EnglandA
Now that April's thereB
And whoever wakes in EnglandA
Sees some morning unawareB
That the lowest boughs and the brushwood sheafC
Round the elm tree bole are in tiny leafC
While the chaffinch sings on the orchard boughD
In England nowD
-
And after April when May followsE
And the whitethroat builds and all the swallowsE
Hark where my blossomed pear tree in the hedgeF
Leans to the field and scatters on the cloverG
Blossoms and dewdrops at the bent spray's edgeF
That's the wise thrush he sings each song twice overG
Lest you should think he never could recaptureG
The first fine careless raptureG
And though the fields look rough with hoary dewH
All will be gay when noontide wakes anewH
The buttercups the little children's dowerI
Far brighter than this gaudy melon flowerG
