A Face Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEDFFGGHHIIJKLL LJIf one could have that little head of hers | A |
Painted upon a background of pure gold | B |
Such as the Tuscan's early art prefers | A |
No shade encroaching on the matchless mould | B |
Of those two lips which should be opening soft | C |
In the pure profile not as when she laughs | D |
For that spoils all but rather as if aloft | E |
Yon hyacinth she loves so leaned its staff's | D |
Burden of honey colored buds to kiss | F |
And capture 'twixt the lips apart for this | F |
Then her little neck three fingers might surround | G |
How it should waver on the pale gold ground | G |
Up to the fruit shaped perfect chin it lifts | H |
I know Correggio loves to mass in rifts | H |
Of heaven his angel faces orb on orb | I |
Breaking its outline burning shades absorb | I |
But these are only massed there I should think | J |
Waiting to see some wonder momently | K |
Grow out stand full fade slow against the sky | L |
That's the pale ground you'd see this sweet face by | L |
All heaven meanwhile condensed into one eye | L |
Which fears to lose the wonder should it wink | J |
