I Stand in the Shadows By Richard Martin 454
Though my life has been full, my joys and heartaches many,
I often feel alone, and sometimes, self pity.
I stand in the shadows, not hidden, just not seen.
Not really here or there, just somewhere in between.
I don’t want the spotlight; let it shine on others.
I’d rather stay in the background, not on magazine covers.
People can’t see through me, so they look around.
Those who look closer don’t know what they’ve found.
I see through most people and see just who they are.
I try to hide what I see and accept them as they are.
I try to play in their world, but that’s so hard for me.
I see and understand them; they don’t see or understand me.
So I stand in the shadows, for my light hurts their eyes.
They turn away from any light that’s brighter than theirs.
