Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFG HIJKLMNOPQRSTUUUVWXY ZA2B2C2D2E2F2QG2H2I2 J2K2 TL2M2| 'The daffodils are fine this year ' I said | A |
| 'O yes but see my crocuses ' said she | B |
| And so we entered in and sat at talk | C |
| Within a little parlour bowered about | D |
| With garden noises filled with garden scent | E |
| As some sweet sea shell rings with pearly chimes | F |
| And sighs out fragrance of its mother's breast | G |
| - | |
| We sat at talk and all the afternoon | H |
| Whispered about in changing silences | I |
| Of flush and sudden light and gathering shade | J |
| As though some Maestro drew out organ stops | K |
| Somewhere in heaven As two within a boat | L |
| On the wide sea we sat at talk the hours | M |
| Lapping unheeded round us as the waves | N |
| And as such two will ofttimes pause in speech | O |
| Gaze at high heaven and draw deep to their hearts | P |
| The infinite azure then meet eyes again | Q |
| And flash it to each other without words | R |
| First and then with voice trembling as trumpets | S |
| Tremble with fierce breath voice cadenced too | T |
| As deep as the deep sea Aeolian voice | U |
| Voice of star spaces and the pine wood's voice | U |
| In dewy mornings Life's own awful voice | U |
| So did We talk gazing with God's own eyes | V |
| Into Life's deeps ah how they throbbed with stars | W |
| And were we not ourselves like pulsing suns | X |
| Who once an aeon met within the void | Y |
| So fiery close forget how far away | Z |
| Each orbit sweeps and dream a little space | A2 |
| Of fiery wedding So our hearts made answering | B2 |
| Lightnings all that afternoon through purple mists | C2 |
| Of riddled speech and when at last the sun | D2 |
| Our sentinel made sign beneath the trees | E2 |
| Of coming night and we arose and passed | F2 |
| Across the threshold to the flowers again | Q |
| We knew a presence walking in the grove | G2 |
| And a voice speaking through the evening's cool | H2 |
| Unknown before though Love had wrought no wrong | I2 |
| His rune was spoken and another rhyme | J2 |
| Writ in his poem by the master Life | K2 |
| - | |
| 'Pray pluck me some ' I said She brought me two | T |
| For daffodils were very fine that year | L2 |
| O very fine but daffodils no more | M2 |
