We Are With France Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLL MNMNOO PQRKSS

We are with France not by the tiesA
Of treaties made with tongue in cheekB
The ancient diplomatic liesA
The paper promises that seekB
To hide the long maturing guileC
Planning destruction with a smileC
-
We are with France by bonds no sealD
Of the stamped wax and tape can makeE
Bonds no surprise of ambushed steelD
With sneering devil's laughter breakE
Nor need we any plighted speechF
For our deep concord each with eachF
-
As ancient comrades tried and trueG
No new exchange of vows demandH
Each knows of old what each will doG
Nor needs to talk to understandH
So France with us and we with FranceI
Enough the gesture and the glanceI
-
In a shared dream our loves beganJ
Together fought one fight and wonK
The Dream Republican of ManJ
And now as then our dream is oneK
Still as of old our hearts uniteL
To dream and battle for the RightL
-
Nor memories alone are oursM
But purpose for the Future strongN
Across the seas two signal towersM
Keeping stern watch against the WrongN
Seeking with hearts of deep accordO
A better wisdom than the SwordO
-
We are with France in brotherhoodP
Not of the spirit's task aloneQ
But kin in laughter of the bloodR
Where Paris glitters in the sunK
A second home like boys we findS
And leave our grown up cares behindS
