Tobacco Next Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBD ABABBCBD ABABBCBD E BCBD

They took away your drink from youA
The kind old humanizing glassB
Soon they will take tobacco tooA
And next they'll take our demi tasseB
Don't say The bill will never passB
Nor this my warning word disdainC
You said it once you silly assB
Don't make the same mistake againD
-
We know them now the bloodless crewA
We know them all too well alasB
There's nothing that they wouldn't doA
To make the world a Bible classB
Though against bottled beer or BassB
I search the sacred text in vainC
To find a whisper by the MassB
Don't make the same mistake againD
-
Beware these legislators blueA
Pouring their moral poison gasB
On all the joys our fathers knewA
The very flowers in the grassB
Are safe no more and lad and lassB
'Ware the old birch rod and the caneC
Here comes our modern HudibrasB
Don't make the same mistake againD
-
-
ENVOIE
-
Prince vanished is the rail of brassB
So mark me well and my refrainC
Tobacco next you silly assB
Don't make the same mistake againD
