The Loveliest Face And The Wild Rose Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHIHI JDJDEKEK LMLMNDND OPOPAQRQ SGSGBTBT

The loveliest face I turned to herA
Shut in 'mid savage rocks and treesB
'Twas in the May time of the yearC
And our two hearts were filled with easeB
And pointed where a wild rose grewD
Suddenly fair in that grim placeE
We should know all if we but knewD
Whence came this flower and whence this faceE
-
The loveliest face My thoughts went aroundF
Strange sister of this little roseG
So softly 'scaped from undergroundF
O tell me if your beauty knowsG
Being itself so fair a thingH
How came this lovely thing so fairI
How came it to such blossomingH
Leaning so strangely from the airI
-
The wonder of its being bornJ
So lone and lovely even as youD
Half maiden moon half maiden mornJ
And delicately sad with dewD
How came it in this rocky placeE
Or shall I ask the rose if sheK
Knows how this marvel of your faceE
On this harsh planet came to beK
-
Earth's bluest eyes gazed into mineL
And on her head Earth's brightest goldM
Made all the rocks with glory shineL
But still the secret went untoldM
For rose nor girl no more than IN
Their own mysterious meaning knewD
Save that alike from earth and skyN
Each her enchanted being drewD
-
Both from deep wells of wonder sprangO
Both children of the cosmic dreamP
Alike with yonder bird that sangO
And little lives that flit and gleamP
Sparks from the central rose of fireA
That at the heart of being burnsQ
That draws the lily from the mireR
And trodden dust to beauty turnsQ
-
Strange wand of Beauty that transformsS
Old dross to dreams that softly glowsG
On the fierce rainbowed front of stormsS
And smiles on unascended snowsG
That from the travail of lone seasB
Wrests sighing shell and moonlit pearlT
And gathers up all sorceriesB
In the white being of one girlT
