The Afternoon Is Lonely For Your Face Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC DEEDFF GHHGII

The afternoon is lonely for your faceA
The pampered morning mocks the day's declineB
I was so rich at noon the sun was mineB
Mine the sad sea that in that rocky placeA
Girded us round with blue betrothal ringC
Because your heart was mine your heart that precious thingC
-
The night will be a desert till the dawnD
Unless you take some ferry boat of dreamsE
And glide to me a glory of silver beamsE
Under my eyelids like sad curtains drawnD
So by good hap my heart can find its wayF
Where all your sweetness lies in fragrant disarrayF
-
Ah but with morn the world begins anewG
Again the sea shall sing up to your feetH
And earth and all the heavens call you sweetH
You all alone with me I all alone with youG
And all the business of the laurelled hoursI
Shyly to gaze on that betrothal ring of oursI
