You shall not dare to drink this cupA
Yet fear this other I hold upA
Sings Love in SpainB
-
One brimming deep with woman's breathC
This other moon lit cup is DeathC
Drink one drink twainB
-
No sippers we of ladies' lipsD
Toyers of amorous finger tipsD
Are we in SpainB
-
Terrible like a bright sweet swordE
And little tender is the LordE
Of Love in SpainB
-
His song a tiger throated thingF
A crouch a cry a frightened stringF
Death the refrainB
-
Scarlet and lightning are its wordsG
There is no room in it for birdsG
And flowers in SpainB
-
A flash and mouth is lost on mouthH
And life on life so in the SouthH
The cup we drainB
-
We do not dream and hesitateI
About its brim we fear not FateI
That love in SpainB
-
And ah come hear the reason whyJ
There are no girls beneath the skyJ
Like those of SpainB
-
All other women scarcely seemK
More than pale women in a dreamK
By ours of SpainB
-
Ah who aright shall tell their praiseL
Their subtle soft imperious waysL
Their high disdainB
-
Golden as bars of Spanish goldM
Hot as the sun as the moon coldM
The girls of SpainB
-
Their faces as magnolias whiteN
Their hair the soul of summer nightN
Soft as soft rainB
-
And swift as the steel blade that fliesO
Into a coward's heart their eyesO
Then soft againP
-
Under their little languid feetQ
That carry such a world of sweetQ
My heart lies slainB
-
Girls North and South and East and WestR
But fairer far than all the restR
The girls of SpainB
