Cor Cordium Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCCDCD EFFEGG HHIIJJ C KKK LLMMNN O

To My Wife MildredA
-
Dear wife there is no word in all my songsB
But unto thee belongsB
Though I indeed before our true day cameC
Mistook thy star in many a wandering flameC
Singing to thee in many a fair disguiseD
Calling to thee in many another's nameC
Before I knew thine everlasting eyesD
-
Faces that fled me like a hunted fawnE
I followed singing deeming it was ThouF
Seeking this face that on our pillow nowF
Glimmers behind thy golden hair like dawnE
And like a setting moon within my breastG
Sinks down each night to restG
-
Moon follows moon before the great moon flowersH
Moon of the wild wild honey that is oursH
Long must the tree strive up in leaf and rootI
Before it bear the golden hearted fruitI
And shall great Love at once perfected springJ
Nor grow by steps like any other thingJ
-
-
COR CORDIUMC
-
The lawless love that would not be deniedK
The love that waited and in waiting diedK
The love that met and mated satisfiedK
-
Ah love 'twas good to climb forbidden wallsL
Who would not follow where his Juliet callsL
'Twas good to try and love the angel's wayM
With starry souls untainted of the clayM
But best the love where earth and heaven meetN
The god made flesh and dwelling in us sweetN
