God of the Wine List roseate lordA
And is it really then good byB
Of Prohibitionists abhorredA
Must thou in sorry sooth then dieB
O fatal morning of JulyB
Nor aught hold back the threatened hourC
That shrinks thy purple clusters dryB
Say not good by but au revoirD
-
For the last time the wine is pouredA
For the last toast the glass raised highB
And henceforth round the wintry boardA
As dumb as fish we'll sit and sighB
And eat our Puritanic pieB
And dream of suppers gone beforeE
With flying wit and words that flyB
Say not good by but au revoirD
-
'Twas on thy wings the poet soaredA
And Sorrow fled when thou wentst byB
And when we said Here's looking towardA
It seemed a better world say IB
With greener grass and bluer skyB
The writ is on the Tavern DoorE
And who would tipple on the slyB
'Tis not good by but au revoirD
-
-
ENVOIB
-
Gay God of Bottles I denyB
Those brave tempestuous times are o'erC
Somehow I think I scarce know whyB
'Tis not good by but au revoirD
