Ballade Of The Bees Of Trebizond Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACBDBD ABABBDBD DBDBBDBD E BDBD

There blooms a flower in TrebizondA
Stored with such honey for the beeB
So saith the antique book I connedA
Of such alluring fragrancyC
Not sweeter smells the Eden treeB
Thither the maddened feasters flyD
Yet so alas is it with meB
To taste that honey is to dieD
-
Belov d I as foolish fondA
Feast still my eyes and heart on theeB
Asking no blessedness beyondA
Thy face from morn till night to seeB
Ensorcelled past all remedyB
Even as those foolish bees am ID
Though well I know my destinyB
To taste that honey is to dieD
-
O'er such a doom shall I despondD
I would not from thy snare go freeB
Release me not from thy sweet bondD
I live but in thy mysteryB
Though all my senses from me fleeB
I still would glut my glazing eyeD
Thou nectar of mortalityB
To taste that honey is to dieD
-
-
ENVOIE
-
Princess before I cease to beB
Bend o'er my lips so burning dryD
Thy honeycombs of ivoryB
To taste that honey is to dieD
