O ships upon the sea O shapes of airA
O lands whose names are made of spice and tarB
Old painted empires that are ever fairA
From Cochin China down to ZanzibarB
O Beauty simple soul less and bizarreB
I would take Danger for my bosom wifeC
And light our bed with some wild tropic starB
O how I long to run away with LifeC
-
To run together Life and I What careA
Ours if from Duty we may run so farB
As to forget the daily mounting stairA
The roaring subway and the clanging carB
The stock that ne'er again shall be at parB
The silly speed the city's stink and strifeC
The faces that to look on leaves a scarB
O how I long to run away with LifeC
-
Fling up the sail all sail that she can bearA
And out across the little frightened barB
Into the fearless seas alone with herD
The great sail humming to the straining sparB
Curved as Love's breast and white as nenupharB
The spring wind singing like a happy fifeC
The keen prow cutting like a scimitarB
O how I long to run away with LifeC
-
-
ENVOIC
-
Princess the gates of Heaven are ajarB
Cut we our bonds with Freedom's gleaming knifeC
Lo where Delight and all the Dancers areB
O how I long to run away with LifeC
