Ballade Of Love's Cloister Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Had I the gold that some so vainly spendA
For my lost loves a temple would I raiseB
A shrine for each dear name there should ascendA
Incense for ever and hymns of golden praiseB
And I would live the remnant of my daysB
Where hallowed windows cast their painted gleamsC
At prayer before each consecrated faceD
Kneeling within that cloister of old dreamsC
-
And each fair altar like a priest I'd tendA
Trimming the tapers to a constant blazeB
And to each lovely and beloved friendA
Garlands I'd bring and virginal soft spraysB
From April's bodice and moon breasted May'sB
And there should be a sound for ever of streamsC
And birds 'mid happy leaves in that still placeD
Kneeling within that cloister of old dreamsC
-
O'er missals of hushed memories would I bendA
And thrilling scripts of bosom scented phraseB
Telling of love that never hath an endA
And sacred relics of wonder working graceD
Strands of bright hair and tender webs of laceD
Press to my lips until the Present seemsC
The Past again to my ensorcelled gazeB
Kneeling within that cloister of old dreamsC
-
-
ENVOIE
-
Princesses unforgot your lover laysB
His heart upon your altars and he deemsC
He treads again the fair love haunted waysB
Kneeling within that cloister of old dreamsC
