At The Sign Of The Lyre Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBCBCDEEFFGGGHFHIJK K CCLLFF MMLLHHHH NNOOPPQQ

To the Memory of Austin DobsonA
-
Master of the lyric innB
Where the rarer sort so longC
Drew the rein to 'scape the dinB
Of the cymbal and the gongC
Topers of the classic binB
Oporto sherris and tokayC
Muscatel and beaujolaisD
Conning some old Book of AirsE
Lolling in their Queen Anne chairsE
Catch or glee or madrigalF
Writ for viol or virginalF
Or from France some courtly tuneG
Gavotte ridotto rigadoonG
Watteau and the rising moonG
Ballade rondeau trioletH
Villanelle or virelayF
Wistful of a statelier dayH
Gallant delicate desireI
Where the Sign swings of the LyreJ
Garlands droop above the doorK
Thou dear Master art no moreK
-
Lo about thy portals throngC
Sorrowing shapes that loved thy songC
Taste and Elegance are thereL
The modish Muses of MayfairL
Wit Distinction Form and StyleF
Humour too with tear and smileF
-
Fashion sends her butterfliesM
Pretty laces to their eyesM
Ladies from St James's thereL
Step out from the sedan chairL
Wigged and scented dandies tooH
Tristely wear their sprigs of rueH
Country squires are in the crowdH
And little Phyllida sobs aloudH
-
Then stately shades I seem to seeN
Master to companion theeN
Horace and Fielding here are comeO
To bid thee to ElysiumO
Last comes one all golden FameP
Calls thee Master by thy nameP
On thy brow the laurel laysQ
Whispers low In After DaysQ
