Walden Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEDE DFDF GHGH DIDI JKJ LMLM DNDN ODOD PDPD FHFH QHQH

In my garden three ways meetA
Thrice the spot is blestB
Hermit thrush comes there to buildC
Carrier doves to nestB
-
There broad armed oaks the copses' mazeD
The cold sea wind detainE
Here sultry Summer overstaysD
When Autumn chills the plainE
-
Self sown my stately garden growsD
The winds and wind blown seedF
Cold April rain and colder snowsD
My hedges plant and feedF
-
From mountains far and valleys nearG
The harvests sown to dayH
Thrive in all weathers without fearG
Wild planters plant awayH
-
In cities high the careful crowdsD
Of woe worn mortals darkling goI
But in these sunny solitudesD
My quiet roses blowI
-
Methought the sky looked scornful downJ
On all was base in manK
And airy tongues did taunt the townJ
'Achieve our peace who can '-
-
What need I holier dewL
Than Walden's haunted waveM
Distilled from heaven's alembic blueL
Steeped in each forest caveM
-
If Thought unlock her mysteriesD
If Friendship on me smileN
I walk in marble galleriesD
I talk with kings the whileN
-
How drearily in College hallO
The Doctor stretched the hoursD
But in each pause we heard the callO
Of robins out of doorsD
-
The air is wise the wind thinks wellP
And all through which it blowsD
If plants or brain if egg or shellP
Or bird or biped knowsD
-
And oft at home 'mid tasks I heedF
I heed how wears the dayH
We must not halt while fiercely speedF
The spans of life awayH
-
What boots it here of Thebes or RomeQ
Or lands of Eastern dayH
In forests I am still at homeQ
And there I cannot strayH
