The yesterday doth never smileA
The day goes drudging through the whileA
Yet in the name of Godhead IB
The morrow front and can defyB
Though I am weak yet God when prayedC
Cannot withhold his conquering aidC
Ah me it was my childhood's thoughtD
If He should make my web a blotE
On life's fair picture of delightF
My heart's content would find it rightF
But O these waves and leavesG
When happy stoic Nature grievesG
No human speech so beautifulH
As their murmurs mine to lullH
On this altar God hath builtI
I lay my vanity and guiltI
Nor me can Hope or Passion urgeJ
Hearing as now the lofty dirgeJ
Which blasts of Northern mountains hymnK
Nature's funeral high and dimK
Sable pageantry of cloudsL
Mourning summer laid in shroudsL
Many a day shall dawn and dieB
Many an angel wander byB
And passing light my sunken turfM
Moist perhaps by ocean surfM
Forgotten amid splendid tombsN
Yet wreathed and hid by summer bloomsN
On earth I dream I die to beO
Time shake not thy bald head at meO
I challenge thee to hurry pastP
Or for my turn to fly too fastP
Think me not numbed or halt with ageQ
Or cares that earth to earth engageQ
Caught with love's cord of twisted beamsR
Or mired by climate's gross extremesR
I tire of shams I rush to beO
I pass with yonder comet freeO
Pass with the comet into spaceS
Which mocks thy aeons to embraceS
Aeons which tardily unfoldT
Realm beyond realm extent untoldT
No early morn no evening lateU
Realms self upheld disdaining FateU
Whose shining sons too great for fameV
Never heard thy weary nameV
Nor lives the tragic bard to sayW
How drear the part I held in oneX
How lame the other limped awayW
