Because I was content with these poor fields	A
Low open meads slender and sluggish streams	B
And found a home in haunts which others scorned	C
The partial wood gods overpaid my love	D
And granted me the freedom of their state	E
And in their secret senate have prevailed	F
With the dear dangerous lords that rule our life	G
Made moon and planets parties to their bond	H
And pitying through my solitary wont	I
Shot million rays of thought and tenderness	J

For me in showers in sweeping showers the spring	K
Visits the valley break away the clouds	L
I bathe in the morn's soft and silvered air	M
And loiter willing by yon loitering stream	N
Sparrows far off and nearer yonder bird	O
Blue coated flying before from tree to tree	P
Courageous sing a delicate overture	Q
To lead the tardy concert of the year	R
Onward and nearer draws the sun of May	S
And wide around the marriage of the plants	T
Is sweetly solemnized then flows amain	U
The surge of summer's beauty dell and crag	K
Hollow and lake hill side and pine arcade	V
Are touched with genius Yonder ragged cliff	W
Has thousand faces in a thousand hours	X

Here friendly landlords men ineloquent	V
Inhabit and subdue the spacious farms	Y
Traveller to thee perchance a tedious road	V
Or soon forgotten picture to these men	U
The landscape is an armory of powers	X
Which one by one they know to draw and use	Z
They harness beast bird insect to their work	K
They prove the virtues of each bed of rock	K
And like a chemist 'mid his loaded jars	A2
Draw from each stratum its adapted use	Z
To drug their crops or weapon their arts withal	B2
They turn the frost upon their chemic heap	C2
They set the wind to winnow vetch and grain	U
They thank the spring flood for its fertile slime	D2
And on cheap summit levels of the snow	U
Slide with the sledge to inaccessible woods	E2
O'er meadows bottomless So year by year	R
They fight the elements with elements	F2
That one would say meadow and forest walked	V
Upright in human shape to rule their like	K
And by the order in the field disclose	G2
The order regnant in the yeoman's brain	U

What these strong masters wrote at large in miles	H2
I followed in small copy in my acre	Q
For there's no rood has not a star above it	V
The cordial quality of pear or plum	I2
Ascends as gladly in a single tree	P
As in broad orchards resonant with bees	J2
And every atom poises for itself	K2
And for the whole The gentle Mother of all	B2
Showed me the lore of colors and of sounds	L2
The innumerable tenements of beauty	P
The miracle of generative force	M2
Far reaching concords of astronomy	P
Felt in the plants and in the punctual birds	N2
Mainly the linked purpose of the whole	B2
And chiefest prize found I true liberty	P
The home of homes plain dealing Nature gave	O2

Would mortify me but in vain	U
I am a willow of the wilderness	J
Loving the wind that bent me All my hurts	P2
My garden spade can heal A woodland walk	K
A wild rose or rock loving columbine	U
Salve my worst wounds and leave no cicatrice	P2
For thus the wood gods murmured in my ear	Q2
Dost love our manners Canst thou silent lie	B2
Canst thou thy pride forgot like nature pass	P2
Into the winter night's extinguished mood	V
Canst thou shine now then darkle	B2
And being latent feel thyself no less	P2
As when the all worshipped moon attracts the eye	B2
The river hill stems foliage are obscure	R2
