Forerunners Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAADDEFAAAAAGAG HHIIJJKKLMJJAANNAA

LONG I followed happy guidesA
I could never reach their sidesA
Their step is forth and ere the dayB
Breaks up their leaguer and awayB
Keen my sense my heart was youngC
Right good will my sinews strungC
But no speed of mine availsA
To hunt upon their shining trailsA
On and away their hasting feetD
Make the morning proud and sweetD
Flowers they strew I catch the scentE
Or tone of silver instrumentF
Leaves on the wind melodious traceA
Yet I could never see their faceA
On eastern hills I see their smokesA
Mixed with mist by distant lochsA
I met many travellersA
Who the road had surely keptG
They saw not my fine revellersA
These had crossed them while they sleptG
Some had heard their fair reportH
In the country or the courtH
Fleetest couriers aliveI
Never yet could once arriveI
As they went or they returnedJ
At the house where these sojournedJ
Sometimes their strong speed they slackenK
Though they are not overtakenK
In sleep their jubilant troop is nearL
I tuneful voices overhearM
It may be in wood or wasteJ
At unawares t is come and pastJ
Their near camp my spirit knowsA
By signs gracious as rainbowsA
I thenceforward and long afterN
Listen for their harp like laughterN
And carry in my heart for daysA
Peace that hallows rudest waysA
