Marveling he stands on the cathedral'sA
steep ascent close to the rose windowB
as though frightened at the apotheosisA
which grew and all at onceA

set him down over these and theseA
And straight he stands and glad of his enduranceA
simply determined as the husbandmanC
who began and who knew not howD

from the garden of Eden finished fullE
to find a way out intoF
the new earth God was hard to persuadeG

and threatened him instead of accedingH
ever and again that he would dieI
