When I called you in your gardenA
Mango blooms were rich in fragranceB
Why did you remain so distantC
Keep your doors so tightly fastenedD
Blossoms grew to ripe fruit clustersE
Your rejected my cuppded handfulsF
Closed your eyes to perfectnessF
-
In the fierce harsh storms of BaisakhG
Golden ripened fruit fell tumblingG
'Dust I said 'defiles such offeringsF
Let your hands be heaven to them '-
Still you showed no friendlinessF
-
Lampless were your doors at eveningG
Pitch black as I played my vinaH
How the starlight twanged my heartstringsF
How I set my vina dancingG
You showed no responsivenessF
-
Sad birds twittered sleeplesslyI
Calling calling lost companionsF
Gone the right time for our unionA
Low the moon while still you broodedJ
Sunk in lonely pensivenessF
-
Who can understand anotherK
Heart cannot restrain its passionA
I had hoped that some remainingG
Tear soaked memories would sway youL
Stir your feet to lightsomenessF
-
Moon fell at the feet of morningG
Loosened from the night's fading necklaceF
While you slept O did my VinaH
Lull you with its heartache Did youL
Dream at least of happinessF
