The Gardener Xxviii: Your Questioning Eyes Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHEIJKLMKNOPJQ RSTUMVWXY

Your questioning eyes are sad TheyA
seek to know my meaning as the moonB
would fathom the seaC
I have bared my life before yourD
eyes from end to end with nothingE
hidden or held back That is why youF
know me notG
If it were only a gem I could breakH
it into a hundred pieces and stringE
them into a chain to put on your neckI
If it were only a flower round andJ
small and sweet I could pluck it fromK
its stem to set it in your hairL
But it is a heart my belovedM
Where are its shores and its bottomK
You know not the limits of thisN
kingdom still you are its queenO
If it were only a moment of pleasureP
it would flower in an easy smile andJ
you could see it and read it in aQ
momentR
If it were merely a pain it wouldS
melt in limpid tears reflecting itsT
inmost secret without a wordU
But it is love my belovedM
Its pleasure and pain are boundlessV
and endless its wants and wealthW
It is as near to you as your life butX
you can never wholly know itY
