Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHGIAJKALMANOP QOMRSRDGTUVO

I asked nothing only stood at theA
edge of the wood behind the treeB
Languor was still upon the eyesC
of the dawn and the dew in the airD
The lazy smell of the damp grassE
hung in the thin mist above the earthF
Under the banyan tree you wereG
milking the cow with your handsH
tender and fresh as butterG
And I was standing stillI
I did not say a word It was theA
bird that sang unseen from the thicketJ
The mango tree was shedding itsK
flowers upon the village road and theA
bees came humming one by oneL
On the side of the pond the gate ofM
Shiva's temple was opened and theA
worshipper had begun his chantsN
With the vessel on your lap youO
were milking the cowP
I stood with my empty canQ
I did not come near youO
The sky woke with the sound ofM
the gong at the templeR
The dust was raised in the roadS
from the hoofs of the driven cattleR
With the gurgling pitchers at theirD
hips women came from the riverG
Your bracelets were jingling andT
foam brimming over the jarU
The morning wore on and I did notV
come near youO
