Palm Tree Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDE FAFGHI JIKLMN OAPIQI

Palm tree single legged giantA
topping other treesB
peering at the firmamentA
It longs to pierce the black cloud ceilingC
and fly away awayD
if only it had wingsE
-
The tree seems to express its wishF
in the tossing of its headA
its fronds heave and swishF
It thinks Maybe my leaves are feathersG
and nothing stops me nowH
from rising on their flutterI
-
All day the fronds the windblown treeJ
soar and flap and shudderI
as though it thinks it can flyK
As though it wanders in the skiesL
travelling who knows whereM
wheeling past the starsN
-
And then as soon as the wind dies downO
the fronds subside subsideA
the mind of the tree returnsP
To earth recalls that earth is its motherI
and then it likes once moreQ
its earthly cornerI
