To Flight-lieutenant Robinson, V.c. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDDC EFEFGHHG IJIJKEEK

You with the hawk's eyes and the nerves of steelA
How was it with you when the hurried wordB
Roused you and sent you swiftly forth to dealA
A blow for justice Sure your pulses stirredB
And all your being leapt to meet the callC
Which bade you strike nor spareD
Where poised in airD
Murder and ravening flame were hid intent to fallC
-
Alone upon your fearful task you flewE
Where in the vault of heaven the high stars swingF
Alone and upward lost to mortal viewE
Winding about the assassin craft a ringF
Of fateful motion till at last you spedG
Through the far tracts of gloomH
The bolt of doomH
Shattering the dastard foe to earth with all his deadG
-
For this we thank you and we bid you knowI
That henceforth in the air by day or nightJ
A myriad hopes of ours where'er you goI
Rise as companions of your soaring flightJ
And well we know that when there comes the needK
A host of men like youE
As staunch as trueE
Will rush to prove the daring of the island breedK
