The Bird In The Room Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL MHMHNONO PQPQRBRB

A robin skimmed into the roomA
And blithe he looked and jollyB
A foe to every sort of gloomA
And most to melancholyB
He cocked his head he made no soundC
But gave me stare for stare backD
When having fluttered round and roundC
He perched upon a chair backD
-
I rose ah then it seemed he knewE
Too late his reckless errorF
Away in eager haste he flewE
And at his tail flew terrorF
Now here now there from wall to floorG
For mere escape appealingH
He fled and struck against the doorG
Or bumped about the ceilingH
-
I went and flung each window wideI
I drew each half raised blind upJ
To coax him out in vain I triedI
He could not make his mind upJ
He flew he fell he took a restK
And off again he scuffledL
With parted beak and panting breastK
And every feather ruffledL
-
At length I lured him to the sillM
All dazed and undiviningH
Beyond was peace o'er vale and hillM
And all the air was shiningH
I stretched my hand and touched him thenN
He made no more resistanceO
But left the cramped abode of menN
And flew into the distanceO
-
-
-
Is life like that We make it soP
We leave the sunny spacesQ
And beat about or high or lowP
In dark and narrow placesQ
Till worn with failure vexed with doubtR
Our strength at last we rallyB
And the bruised spirit flutters outR
To find the happy valleyB
