Pansies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EFGG HHII JJKK LLMN OOPP

Tufted and bunched and ranged with careless artA
Here where the paving stones are set apartA
Alert and gay and innocent of guileB
The little pansies nod their heads and smileB
-
With what a whispering and a lulling soundC
They watch the children sport about the groundC
Longing it seems to join the pretty playD
That laughs and runs the light winged hours awayD
-
And other children long ago there wereE
Who shone and played and made the garden fairF
To whom the pansies in their robes of whiteG
And gold and purple gave a welcome brightG
-
Gone are those voices but the others cameH
Joyous and free whose spirit was the sameH
And other pansies robed as those of oldI
Peeped up and smiled in purple white and goldI
-
For pansies are I think the little gleamsJ
Of children's visions from a world of dreamsJ
Jewels of innocence and joy and mirthK
Alight with laughter as they fall to earthK
-
Below the ancient guardian it may hapL
The kindly mother takes them in her lapL
Decks them with glowing petals and replacesM
In the glad air the friendly pansy facesN
-
So tread not rashly children lest you crushO
A part of childhood in a thoughtless rushO
Would you not treat them gently if you knewP
Pansies are little bits of children tooP
