The little pansies nod their heads and smile | B |

With what a whispering and a lulling sound | C |
They watch the children sport about the ground | C |
Longing it seems to join the pretty play | D |
That laughs and runs the light winged hours away | D |
- | |
And other children long ago there were | E |
Who shone and played and made the garden fair | F |
To whom the pansies in their robes of white | G |
And gold and purple gave a welcome bright | G |
- | |
Gone are those voices but the others came | H |
Joyous and free whose spirit was the same | H |
And other pansies robed as those of old | I |
Peeped up and smiled in purple white and gold | I |
- | |
For pansies are I think the little gleams | J |
Of children's visions from a world of dreams | J |
Jewels of innocence and joy and mirth | K |
Alight with laughter as they fall to earth | K |
- | |
Below the ancient guardian it may hap | L |
The kindly mother takes them in her lap | L |
Decks them with glowing petals and replaces | M |
In the glad air the friendly pansy faces | N |
- | |
So tread not rashly children lest you crush | O |
A part of childhood in a thoughtless rush | O |
Would you not treat them gently if you knew | P |
Pansies are little bits of children too | P |
