Pagan Fancies Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLLBlow Father Triton blow your wreathed horn | A |
Cheerly as is your wont and let the blast | B |
Circle our island on the breezes borne | A |
Blow while the shining hours go swiftly past | B |
Rise Proteus from the cool depths rise and be | C |
A friend to them that breast your ancient sea | C |
- | |
I shall be there to greet you for I tire | D |
Of the dull meadows and the crawling stream | E |
Now with a heart uplifted and a fire | D |
I come to greet you and to catch the gleam | E |
Of jocund Nereids tossing in the air | F |
The sportive tresses of their amber hair | F |
- | |
High on a swelling upland I shall stand | G |
Stung by the buffets of the wind borne spray | H |
Or join the troops that sport upon the sand | G |
With shouts and laughter wearing out the day | H |
Or pace apart and listen to the roar | I |
Of the great waves that beat the crumbling shore | I |
- | |
Then when the children all are lapped in sleep | J |
The pretty Nymphlets of the sea shall rise | K |
And we shall know them as they flit and creep | J |
And peep and glance and murmur lullabies | K |
While the pale moon comes up beyond the hill | L |
And Proteus rests and Triton's horn is still | L |
