Ah, Silly Pug, Wert Thou So Sore Afraid Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFDDCGHIID D

Ah silly Pug wert thou so sore afraidA
Mourn not my Wat nor be thou so dismayedA
It passeth fickle Fortune s power and skillB
To force my heart to think thee any illB
No Fortune base thou sayest shall alter theeC
And may so blind a witch so conquer meC
No no my Pug though Fortune were not blindD
Assure thyself she could not rule my mindD
Fortune I know sometimes doth conquer kingsE
And rules and reigns on earth and earthly thingsE
But never think Fortune can bear the swayF
If virtue watch and will her not obeyF
Ne chose I thee by fickle Fortune s redeD
Ne she shall force me alter with such speedD
But if to try this mistress jest with theeC
Pull up thy heart suppress thy brackish tearsG
Torment thee not but put away thy fearsH
Dead to all joys and living unto woeI
Slain quite by her that ne er gave wise men blowI
Revive again and live without all dreadD
The less afraid the better thou shalt speedD
