Indulgent muse my grov'ling mind inspireA
And fill my bosom with celestial fireB
See from Jamaica's fervid shore she movesC
Like the fair mother of the blooming lovesD
When from above the Goddess with her handE
Fans the soft breeze and lights upon the landE
Thus she on Neptune's wat'ry realm reclin'dF
Appear'd and thus invites the ling'ring windF
Arise ye winds America exploreG
Waft me ye gales from this malignant shoreG
The Northern milder climes I long to greetH
There hope that health will my arrival meetH
Soon as she spoke in my ideal viewI
The winds assented and the vessel flewI
Madam your spouse bereft of wife and sonJ
In the grove's dark recesses pours his moanK
Each branch wide spreading to the ambient skyL
Forgets its verdure and submits to dieL
From thence I turn and leave the sultry plainM
And swift pursue thy passage o'er the mainM
The ship arrives before the fav'ring windF
And makes the Philadelphian port assign'dF
Thence I attend you to Bostonia's armsN
Where gen'rous friendship ev'ry bosom warmsO
Thrice welcome here may health revive againP
Bloom on thy cheek and bound in ev'ry veinM
Then back return to gladden ev'ry heartQ
And give your spouse his soul's far dearer partQ
Receiv'd again with what a sweet surpriseR
The tear in transport starting from his eyesR
While his attendant son with blooming graceS
Springs to his father's ever dear embraceS
With shouts of joy Jamaica's rocks resoundT
With shouts of joy the country rings aroundT
