On The Death Of Dr. Samuel Marshall Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCCCDEFFGHCCCCCC CCIIJJCC

Through thickest glooms look back immortal shadeA
On that confusion which thy death has madeA
Or from Olympus' height look down and seeB
A Town involv'd in grief bereft of theeB
Thy Lucy sees thee mingle with the deadC
And rends the graceful tresses from her headC
Wild in her woe with grief unknown opprestC
Sigh follows sigh deep heaving from her breastC
Too quickly fled ah whither art thou goneD
Ah lost for ever to thy wife and sonE
The hapless child thine only hope and heirF
Clings round his mother's neck and weeps his sorrows thereF
The loss of thee on Tyler's soul returnsG
And Boston for her dear physician mournsH
When sickness call'd for Marshall's healing handC
With what compassion did his soul expandC
In him we found the father and the friendC
In life how lov'd how honour'd in his endC
And must not then our AEsculapius stayC
To bring his ling'ring infant into dayC
The babe unborn in the dark womb is tostC
And seems in anguish for its father lostC
Gone is Apollo from his house of earthI
But leaves the sweet memorials of his worthI
The common parent whom we all deploreJ
From yonder world unseen must come no moreJ
Yet 'midst our woes immortal hopes attendC
The spouse the sire the universal friendC
