Isaiah Lxiii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH IIJJBAKKLJ HHMMII NN OONN

Say heav'nly muse what king or mighty GodA
That moves sublime from Idumea's roadB
In Bosrah's dies with martial glories join'dC
His purple vesture waves upon the windD
Why thus enrob'd delights he to appearE
In the dread image of the Pow'r of warF
Compres'd in wrath the swelling wine press groan'dG
It bled and pour'd the gushing purple roundH
-
Mine was the act th' Almighty Saviour saidI
And shook the dazzling glories of his headI
When all forsook I trod the press aloneJ
And conquer'd by omnipotence my ownJ
For man's release sustain'd the pond'rous loadB
For man the wrath of an immortal GodA
To execute th' Eternal's dread commandK
My soul I sacrific'd with willing handK
Sinless I stood before the avenging frownL
Atoning thus for vices not my ownJ
-
His eye the ample field of battle roundH
Survey'd but no created succours foundH
His own omnipotence sustain'd the rightM
His vengeance sunk the haughty foes in nightM
Beneath his feet the prostrate troops were spreadI
And round him lay the dying and the deadI
-
Great God what light'ning flashes from thine eyesN
What pow'r withstands if thou indignant riseN
-
Against thy Zion though her foes may rageO
And all their cunning all their strength engageO
Yet she serenely on thy bosom liesN
Smiles at their arts and all their force defiesN
