Men of England wherefore ploughA
For the lords who lay ye lowB
Wherefore weave with toil and careC
The rich robes your tyrants wearC
-
Wherefore feed and clothe and saveD
From the cradle to the graveD
Those ungrateful drones who wouldE
Drain your sweat nay drink your bloodF
-
Wherefore Bees of England forgeG
Many a weapon chain and scourgeH
That these stingless drones may spoilI
The forced produce of your toilI
-
Have ye leisure comfort calmJ
Shelter food love's gentle balmJ
Or what is it ye buy so dearK
With your pain and with your fearK
-
The seed ye sow another reapsL
The wealth ye find another keepsL
The robes ye weave another wearsM
The arms ye forge another bearsM
-
Sow seed but let no tyrant reapN
Find wealth let no imposter heapN
Weave robes let not the idle wearC
Forge arms in your defence to bearC
-
Shrink to your cellars holes and cellsO
In halls ye deck another dwellsO
Why shake the chains ye wrought Ye seeP
The steel ye tempered glance on yeP
-
With plough and spade and hoe and loomQ
Trace your grave and build your tombQ
And weave your winding sheet till fairC
England be your sepulchreC
