The Irishman's Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GHII E

The stars may dissolve and the fountain of lightA
May sink into ne'er ending chaos and nightA
Our mansions must fall and earth vanish awayB
But thy courage O Erin may never decayB
-
See the wide wasting ruin extends all aroundC
Our ancestors' dwellings lie sunk on the groundC
Our foes ride in triumph throughout our domainsD
And our mightiest heroes lie stretched on the plainsD
-
Ah dead is the harp which was wont to give pleasureE
Ah sunk is our sweet country's rapturous measureE
But the war note is waked and the clangour of spearsF
The dread yell of Sloghan yet sounds in our earsF
-
Ah where are the heroes triumphant in deathG
Convulsed they recline on the blood sprinkled heathH
Or the yelling ghosts ride on the blast that sweeps byI
And 'my countrymen vengeance ' incessantly cryI
-
