Hast thou not seen officious with delightB
Move through the illumined air about the flowerC
The Bee that fears to drink its purple lightB
Lest danger lurk within that Rose's bowerC
Hast thou not marked the moth's enamoured flightB
About the Taper's flame at evening hourC
'Till kindle in that monumental fireC
His sunflower wings their own funereal pyreC
-
-
My heart its wishes trembling to unfoldD
Thus round the Rose and Taper hovering cameE
'And Passion's slave Distrust in ashes coldD
Smothered awhile but could not quench the flame '-
Till Love that grows by disappointment boldD
And Opportunity had conquered ShameE
And like the Bee and Moth in act to closeF
'I burned my wings and settled on the Rose '-
