Sorrow. Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LMLM NENE BCBC O

To me this world's a dreary blankA
All hopes in life are gone and fledB
My high strung energies are sankA
And all my blissful hopes lie deadB
-
The world once smiling to my viewC
Showed scenes of endless bliss and joyD
The world I then but little knewC
Ah little knew how pleasures cloyD
-
All then was jocund all was gayE
No thought beyond the present hourF
I danced in pleasure's fading rayE
Fading alas as drooping flowerF
-
Nor do the heedless in the throngG
One thought beyond the morrow giveH
They court the feast the dance the songG
Nor think how short their time to liveI
-
The heart that bears deep sorrow's traceJ
What earthly comfort can consoleK
It drags a dull and lengthened paceJ
'Till friendly death its woes enrollK
-
The sunken cheek the humid eyesL
E'en better than the tongue can tellM
In whose sad breast deep sorrow liesL
Where memory's rankling traces dwellM
-
The rising tear the stifled sighN
A mind but ill at ease displayE
Like blackening clouds in stormy skyN
Where fiercely vivid lightnings playE
-
Thus when souls' energy is deadB
When sorrow dims each earthly viewC
When every fairy hope is fledB
We bid ungrateful world adieuC
-
