Lines: The Cold Earth Slept Below Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCAAD EFGGEEF HIJJHHI KLMMNNL

The cold earth slept belowA
Above the cold sky shoneB
And all aroundC
With a chilling soundC
From caves of ice and fields of snowA
The breath of night like death did flowA
Beneath the sinking moonD
-
The wintry hedge was blackE
The green grass was not seenF
The birds did restG
On the bare thorn's breastG
Whose roots beside the pathway trackE
Had bound their folds o'er many a crackE
Which the frost had made betweenF
-
Thine eyes glow'd in the glareH
Of the moon's dying lightI
As a fen fire's beamJ
On a sluggish streamJ
Gleams dimly so the moon shone thereH
And it yellow'd the strings of thy tangled hairH
That shook in the wind of nightI
-
The moon made thy lips pale belov e dK
The wind made thy bosom chillL
The night did shedM
On thy dear headM
Its frozen dew and thou didst lieN
Where the bitter breath of the naked skyN
Might visit thee at willL
