Bereavement Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBBCCCBDEDEBBBF

How stern are the woes of the desolate mournerA
As he bends in still grief o'er the hallowed bierB
As enanguished he turns from the laugh of the scornerB
And drops to perfection's remembrance a tearB
When floods of despair down his pale cheeks are streamingC
When no blissful hope on his bosom is beamingC
Or if lulled for a while soon he starts from his dreamingC
And finds torn the soft ties to affection so dearB
Ah when shall day dawn on the night of the graveD
Or summer succeed to the winter of deathE
Rest awhle hapless victim and Heaven will saveD
The spirit that hath faded away with the breathE
Eternity points in its amaranth bowerB
Where no clouds of fate o'er the sweet prospect lourB
Unspeakable pleasure of goodness the dowerB
When woe fades away like the mist of the heathF
